Is there any information on badminton? Where? When?

2 Kim Hogg 2007-08-09 at 1.28 pm

Organized? I haven’t heard of any. I’ll keep my ear to the ground.

Any Rugby to be had in Daejeon? Anyone want to play? All we need is 14 for 7’s.

4 Sooth 2007-10-05 at 5.52 pm

I’m keen on badminton but I don’t see many players or good courts around. You’d think that Korea would have better facilities with the number of top players they produce.

Are there any volleyball leagues in Daejeon? I prefer women’s leagues but could also play co-ed (more competitive).

6 Kim Hogg 2007-10-20 at 7.41 am

There probably are, but as far as I know there aren’t any English speaking groups (it would be a great way to learn Korean!)

7 Kevin Midkiff 2007-10-25 at 9.05 pm

Seth, there is some touch Rugby at TCIS. They have a few tournaments a year that they go to in Seoul. I am not a part of it but you could contact moimoim@tcis.or.kr . Mike MoiMoi is the fellow who organizes the teams and I am sure if you contact him he can give you more info.

Does anyone know a nice Taekwondo club in Daejeon (for adults I mean)? All the clubs I visited are for kids.

I live in Dunsandong and am looking for any nearby ITF taekwondo school. I’m taking an adult WTF class right now, but I studied ITF in America. I’d also be interested in running; I live about two blocks from city hall.

hi there, been in Daejeon for 3 weeks. just wandering if there are any basketball leagues or casual teams that play weekly or something?

13 Andy 2009-05-17 at 2.54 pm

Hi emz, I’ll be interested to hear any responses that take any form of “yes.” But as far as I know no, however I have been looking to go to Taejeon Chrisitian International to check out the scene (I assume you saw the pickup Sundays post) but haven’t managed to get down there and will be out of town next weekend. Feel free to email me andy.lovell@gmaill.com I’ve only been in town for 2.5 months so I’m no pro around here but can find my way around and lend you a hand. Ask co-workers if they are interested, two females I work with want to play. I’ll ask around about the many sports facilities if you’re down to play some 1 on 1 if we don’t hear about anything better.

Has anyone heard tell of any tai chi classes in Daejeon, preferably in the Dunsan/Mannyeon-dong vacinity? Doesn’t have to be English-language obviously. If you could send an email that’d be excellent: palandore@hotmail.com

15 emz 2009-07-17 at 9.04 pm

hey Andy thanks, yeah i haven’t found any where to play basketball. I have been going to play volleyball with a great bunch of people at KAIST foreigners and locals on saturday afternoons so that’s been good. and i found one of my korean colleauges plays basketball so him and i have been playing after work outside the Pyoungsong Youth Centre. so i’m still getting a little dose. hope you’ve found someone to play with…it’s hard to find sports teams i’m finding so i’m sticking to my causal volleyball and if any basketball pops up, awesome!! let me know da_afakasi@hotmail.com. yeah i’m bordering 3 months myself, still feel like i have tonnes to learn though. cheers :)

Hi all,

Just found this section on the municipal government site. It answers some old questions, and might be useful for the future, thought I’d post it. It reviews public sports facilities and gives websites and phone numbers for the various facilities across the city.

Any badminton or basketball players can email me anytime, andy.lovell@gmail.com , whether its for indoor/outdoor. And while I’m posting I’ll let everyone know there is an ultimate frisbee hat tournament in Seoul next weekend 8/15 & 8/16, see the frisbee forum link above from Kim or email me for more details.

Got more info on the Hat tourney? Should make an article about it.

I will be in Daejeon early October…. I would like to play as much volleyball as possible, the higher the level the better but I will play anywhere, pick up, leagues, tournaments, indoors, outdoors, any type. I don’t speak Korean but I don’t care, and would like to play with locals and foreigners. Please email me or find me on FB if you can help me in my volleyball quest. erickson@eltunel.org http://www.facebook.com/Achilles2316

Hi there, I am actually not staying in Daejeon. I am trying to find some volleyball pick up in Seoul area..but I couldnt find any but this on the internet. I wonder if you by chance have some info about vball game in Seoul. I’ll very much appreciate it if you would let me know. Thanks!

20 Kim Hogg 2009-09-24 at 11.23 am

I don’t know of any myself, but I’m sure there’s something in Seoul. Perhaps another reader can offer some insight.

Volleyball on Sundays from 4-7? Is it still active now? I know they play basketball at Hanam University, but are they playin volleyball there or Kaist? If so, how do u get 2 Kaist. I live close 2 Eun Haeng Dong or Panam, the first subway stop. Is anyone aware of a hip hop dance class 4 adults?

22 Kim Hogg 2009-10-27 at 6.32 pm

Pretty sure the volleyball is still running.

23 Cartoon P. 2009-11-19 at 11.31 pm

do they have dance school (hip hop, jazz, etc.) in Daejeon?

24 Kim Hogg 2009-11-19 at 11.35 pm

Yes, there are many. There’s one in Gung-dong for example across the street from the Shisha House on the second floor.

25 ester_a 2010-01-08 at 9.10 am

as an addition to the question no 23, could you specify more dance school places in Daejeon ? in its answer you’ve mentioned that there are many but specified only one. is there any dedicated resource online ?
i need latino dances actually, and preferrably the place attended solely by koreans, because i need to practice my korean.

26 Kim Hogg 2010-01-08 at 10.20 am

I’ve not seen any dedicated English resources on the web, but I’m sure a search in a Korean search engine will bring some results.

There’s a latin club called Azucar in Gung-dong as well, and I’ve seen other clubs in my travels but don’t remember any specific locations. This one is located on the street running from Chungnam University’s main gate to KAIST’s main gate. The school/club is in the basement about one or two blocks past Chungnam University/Want One apartments. I believe the most recent incarnation of their shop sign is white their shop sign is bright pink.

Thanks for a quick reply ,

Now I have one more question,
It’s about ice skating site; is there any in Daejeon ? I’ve heard that there is one nice site for ice skating but unfortunately no one could explain where it is. Could you help me ?

28 Kim Hogg 2010-01-30 at 7.38 am

The hockey league plays at Namseon Park in central Daejeon. I don’t know of any other rinks. Here’s the address in English and Korean:
Daejeon Metropolitan City
Seo-gu, Tanbang-dong 1084
대전광욕시 서구 단방동 1084

You can see the park on Google Maps:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=%EB%8C%80%EC%A0%84%EA%B4%91%EC%97%AD%EC%8B%9C+%EC%84%9C%EA%B5%AC+%EB%8B%A8%EB%B0%A9%EB%8F%99+1084%EB%B2%88%EC%A7%80&sll=36.350412,127.384548&sspn=0.850548,1.432343&ie=UTF8&hq=%EC%84%9C%EA%B5%AC+%EB%8B%A8%EB%B0%A9%EB%8F%99+1084%EB%B2%88%EC%A7%80&hnear=Daejeon,+South+Korea&ll=36.345334,127.399017&spn=0.006645,0.01119&z=17

but it doesn’t clearly list where the rink is. My guess would be in the large athletics center in the northern corner of the park.

Also looking for dance classes here in Daejeon…I live right next to Chungnam University. I wold love to try out the latin place mentioned above, and think I can probably find it. However, I would really love some jazz/hip-hop classes as well. Also, looking for some local hot yoga (or regular yoga classes). Any and all info is really appreciated! Thanks!

30 Melissa 2010-03-08 at 9.59 am

Heya,

I’m looking for yoga classes in Daejeon. Preferably in English. Anyone know of anything? I live in Yuseong.

31 Kim Hogg 2010-03-08 at 11.55 am

I don’t know of any in English, but I did some at a studio in Gungdong that were at least friendly to non-Korean speakers.
