There’s a full time symphony orchestra in Daejeon. Major concerts 2-4 times a week at the Daejeon Culture and Arts Center. Before concert lectures, and 5 full time foreigners.
English would be nice but not entirely necessary. I’m willing to learn both – playing and language. If you know a good teacher, please send me an email: bessie.chow@gmail.com.
Daejeon Concerts is a facebook group looking to promote the local, national and international experimental music scenes in Daejeon and the surrounding area. It is looking to bring more cool acts here!!
Meetings are held about once a week. The last concert was at Budgie in Eunhaeng Dong (Jungangro subway stop) July 25th and featured both Waygookin and native Korean acts. More shows are played in the not so distant future. If you have any ideas or want to join, please check us out on Facebook!!!
This is certainly fine. Feel free to cross-post listings on Socius (I’ll email you details). Likewise if anyone at anytime has something to post about what’s happening in Daejeon, I hope you will! Log in and go to the Site-Admin section and you’ll be able to write something for the blog (if it’s your first time I’ll review it first as a spam-prevention safeguard). You can also use the contact page to get in touch and I’ll make sure you get access if you’re having problems.
Daejeon Open Mic is a facebook group which represents an Open Mic held the first Saturday of every month at Santa Claus in Gung Dong. The Open Mic goes from 9 pm until roughly 1 am. 2 songs or 10 minutes per performer. 1 FREE BEER for everyone who performs. Feature act plays for 20 minutes around 10 pm. Hosted by “G.T. Arpe” (also on facebook). Anything goes: poetry, comedy, avant garde, spoken word, rap though most so far have been musician types.
Next open mic is Saturday, Oct. 3rd, 2009. Feature act is “Ether” from England via Daegu.

Hi there,
I would like to learn to play the gayakuem. I was wondering if anyone knew anyone who might (be able to) offer lessons in Daejeon during the day?
Thanks in advance!
Bessie
