Not that I’m aware of, but I’m sure there are like-minded people out there. There’s an animal assistance group that operates largely out of Daejeon (Animal Rescue Korea), but I haven’t heard anything about Human Rights. There’s a group out of Seoul that deals with human rights issues in North Korea, and there are likely some groups in Gwangju as well for both local and international interests. The other thing that comes to mind is the Daejeon International Community Center and the Migrant Workers center which both work to help people get their needs met and rights protected here in Daejeon and surrounding. Does any of that sound interesting?

I have been here about 5 weeks and although I love it I miss singing and performing. I don’t platy guitar or anything but I’ve always had some type of outlet in this field. It’s kind of my stress relief and i am really feeling the lack of it in my life. Are there any groups, choirs ,or even really hardcore norebong…ers around that you know of?

There are some hard-core noraebangers that I know, but it’s usually not until 11 or 12 on a weekend that they head out, though. They love it and they’re not half bad, either.

Are there any sports clubs in Daejeon? I just moved to Yuseong area a few weeks ago. Would love to find a soccer team to join, but any sport will do.

Hello,

If you’re a fellow photography fan and enthusiast, please join our new photo club. You can find us on FAcebook under Daejeon Photography Enthusiasts http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_204114742948039&ap=1

Are there any gay clubs in Daejeon?!?!?!?!

12 Kim Hogg 2011-04-04 at 8.12 am

There were, but I don’t know where to go now. Things are extremely underground at the moment. If you can speak any Korean, you should try to find the group “Between Friends” (친구사이) online. They’re largely out of Seoul, but what isn’t? They might be able to point you in the right direction.

Hey Kim! I have a Chinese student, Nana, who is looking for English social groups that are secular. She wants to get into the international community, and has had a difficult time at PaiChai with the Christian pressure. I have been checking around, but haven’t found much. The hiking club looks good, but I was hoping to find some other groups such as table tennis, inline, or other activities. Any advice?

14 Kim Hogg 2011-05-20 at 2.10 pm

Hey James-

I’m not too sure about it, but certainly there have to be some near KAIST. There’s the Toastmasters group, which, while she may not be interested in practicing public speaking, they may be able to direct her other places. The other group might be the KAIST adventure club. They are a KAIST club, but because they’re mostly international students I’m sure they’d be happy to welcome other people. I wonder if the KAIST students would be willing to open it to being the Daejeon Adventure club? It’s worth exploring.

Hey Kim!
I’m a Korean-American college student who is here in Daejeon to teach english at an English Summer Camp for children. This program is held at Woosong University, which is also where I’m staying for about 5 weeks. Any suggestions for things to do around this area-hopefully with English speakers??

I have tried once to get an Amnesty International Chapter going at Woosong University and may try again, soon. Contact me if interested:

Hey Rachel-

As I was abroad this summer I didn’t check in much and I hope you found things to do and enjoy around Woosong University. The downtown isn’t too far from the school (two subway stops I believe) and within a 30-minute walk if you’re out late. It’s a good part of town to be stuck in!
