About Us
Hi, I’m Kimberly Hogg and I maintain this site on a volunteer basis to help make your life in and around Daejeon easier and hopefully more fulfilling. Socius is a community project that involves many contributors with varying levels of experience in and around Daejeon.
A group of conscientious individuals started Socius (Latin for sharing) in 2005 because we saw a lack of resources in languages other than Korean for just about anything. From entertainment and our social lives to information for dealing with the government and the legal aspects of living and working here, there was no single place to track down information. We felt that while someone with a few years experience and some Korean under their belt might be able to navigate the system, people new to Daejeon or without Korean skills were having a hard time, and we didn’t like this at all. From that desire for a community passing around information and lending a hand came Socius, and we hope you’ll get involved.
Start by reading. When you learn something, please add it to this site so that others may benefit from it. If you find something here is out of date, incomplete, missing entirely or just plain wrong, please get in touch with us and let us know. If you’ve been here a while and wouldn’t mind giving an orientation to newcomers, volunteer your services in the forums. There are a lot of little projects from bus map distribution to keeping the calendar of events updated that we need done on a regular basis, and we need volunteers.
Socius works best when we all put in a little effort, and we love having new people join the project. We are especially grateful to all the local Korean citizens who contribute and have helped us along the way, and we welcome them here as well. Here are some of our past and present contributors:
