A Place to Happen

Looking for a place to hold a business or club meeting? Or how about a place where you can sit and chat over coffee and don’t need to yell to be heard over everyone else in the shop with you? I may have found such a place.

Across from the main gate of Chungnam University is a new business called Vandy. It serves as meeting, conference, office or study space on an as-needed basis. They have spaces in four sizes: Duo (1-2 people), Vandy (3-6 people), Space (6-12 people) and Conference (10-20 people). The interior design is clean and professional. Reservations can be done online (Korean required) and you don’t need a Korean registration number to do it, either!

Fees are on a per-person basis. The first two hours are 4,000 won for adults, 3,500 for students and every hour afterward is 1,500. The fees include complimentary beverages (sodas, americanos, green tea), a single free specialty tea or ade, and 500-won upgrades to lattes, cappuccinos and other espresso-based beverages. They also have snacks such as cake, toast and bagels on site. Don’t think you can skimp by bringing in your own food, though; that’s not permitted.

If you’re in need of professional equipment for your meeting, you can rent laptops, LCD projectors, as well as print, copy and fax all at reasonable prices. All meeting rooms have a white board installed and internet is available for a fee.

Considering the cost of a coffee at a local cafe, the usually too-loud music and patrons, this is a welcome addition to the city and I hope they are able to franchise across town.
