For those wondering, there has been some progress in the fight for answers about Michael White’s mysterious death. A couple of vigils were held last weekend with some success in bring about further awareness in the Korean community and in pushing for answers from the authorities.
A friend of Stephanie White (Mike’s mother) is monitoring an account for taking care of expenses. This is being kept apart from anything Ms. White can access directly for transparency and accounting purposes. You can make a donation via bank transfer here: S.Micheal White Fund (acct name, but it’s really spelled Michael)

There has been additional expat media coverage, including an interview on the Seoul Podcast, Yonhap News and the Chosun Ilbo have published some stories in Korean (HT to the Marmot’s Hole).
Ms. White is asking for people to write letters to various news outlets to help bring broader coverage to the story. In the interview on Seoul Podcast she noted:
“If anyone knows Mike, if anybody knows Mike personally and has a story about him to share, I ask that they please send a kind of a character testimonial about Mike to the letters to the editor and for Seoul Times its seoultimes@gmail.com… and for the Korea Herald that is khooran@heraldm.com.
Another thing we can do is talk to our newspapers in our hometowns, because if every foreigner – not even every foreigner – let’s say one out of 20 foreigners in Korea right now were to write to their hometown newspaper and tell about this incident just those newspapers around the world having the same words come up, the story would be picked up by AP and Reuters. And once it’s picked up by AP and Reuters, it then becomes an international story. And that is what is going to be needed to leverage pressure on the Korean press to start talking about this. There was a TV interview that was supposed to have been done on Monday but it got squelched. There was another article that was supposed to have been done in a Korean newspaper that was squelched. And so basically, I was never even interviewed by these people because it never got up off the ground.”
