Discovering Daejeon through photography

by daejonchico on September 10, 2007

I bought a new camera a few months ago and have become a passionate photographer. Since January I have been going out almost every weekend in Daejeon to see what I can capture. I went to all of the major tourist attractions, Donghaksa, Expo Park, City Hall, Government Complex, etc. Hit up most of the areas like Dunsan-dong and Eunheng-dong. Literally went from Pannam to Banseok via subway to get some shots. By mid-June, I felt like I had thoroughly covered Daejeon.

Last weekend, I was wandering the streets of Daejeon with a camera in hand exhausted trying to think of where to go next. So, my friend and I headed to Gung-dong, where we usually go for coffee. We spent about two hours sipping our coffee at The Shisha House trying to figure out where to go next. Finally, we decided to go out and see what we could discover.

We hit up the river, just a couple of blocks away. We had been there before; it’s a great place to get shots of cranes. As we walked down the path, there were numerous photo opportunities. Mostly took pictures of cranes. But, there were a couple of ducks that posed. As we walked further, we came to a bridge, underneath the bridge was a homeless person’s living quarters. Complete with a bed and clothes line. It was interesting because this is the first time I saw this kind of thing in
Korea.

As sundown arrived, cranes started flying here and there. The river and plants were covered with a golden ambience and we continued home. It was an excellent way to spend a day. We found something new, got a little exercise, and spent less than 5,000won. If you are running out of ideas on where to go for photography, send me an e-mail and we can set something up for a Saturday.

Here are some of the photos I took.
