New Public Transit Cards

by Kim Hogg on September 17, 2006

As of this summer, Daejeon has another way for people to pay for their bus and subway fares- two, in fact. The popular Hankkumi kards have been joined by a version that hangs on your cell phone and a version you can wear as a wristband.

Some people have had difficulty acquiring the Hankkumi cards at Hana
Bank (2,500won for the account version and 4,000 for the transport-only
versions), and for them these new tools will offer some relief.
Available for 6,000 won from the little green booths along the main
street downtown facing the train station, it’s a matter of point and
pay (or request, should you be able to speak a little Korean). Some
booths have the red transport-only cards available as well (4,000 won).
