How I saw it: CGV

PLOT:

Ricardo Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) is urbane and dead smart. He lives with Bronx-born Intel analyst Trudy (Naomie Harris), as they work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders. Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrell) [to the untrained eye, his presentation may seem unorthodox, but procedurally, he is sound] is charismatic and flirtatious until – while undercover working with the supplier of the South Florida group – he gets romantically entangled with Isabella (Gong Li), the Chinese-Cuban wife of an arms and drugs trafficker. The best undercover identity is oneself with the volume turned up and restraint unplugged. The intensity of the case pushes Crockett and Tubbs out onto the edge where identity and fabrication become blurred, where cop and player become one – especially for Crockett in his romance with Isabella and for Tubbs in the provocation of an assault on those he loves.

Well this film had me intrested when I heard that it was comming out, 2 good actors (Foxx and Farrell) a intresting remake. Miami Vice. Then I started to hear that the film was plagued with problems, stars not getting along, bad plot, alot of back lot drama. Signs that usually, in the past, have doomed films. Well it sure did not help this one.

I remember from the 80′s one great show with card, girls. music and Miami. What I saw was a story plot and with so many holes, I just never bought into it. Miami Vice is about Miami, but we see Columbia, border states, and alot of things that hurt the film.

The romance angle with Farrell and Li was a total wast of time and I never believed it. The real reason the film failed, in my opinion, was Farrell, I just never could believe that he was Sunny Crockett. Sonny was cool in the 80′s, this Sonny seemed to want to die with every shot in the film.

Overall it was a very bad attempt at a relaunch of an 80′s show, that never should have been remade in the begining. Better luck next time Mann.

Grade D (People are gonna come in here and say “nice wallpaper. What is it Jackson Pollack?” No, it’s Jose Yero, he got splattered all over his walls. )
