The past few weeks, I have seen an abundance of red shirts. I work at a public school, where on Korea’s game days, everyone sport their Red Devil shirts. During the first game, I was startled by all of the bottle rockets exploding in the air. Hearing “Dae Han Min Guk” chanted down the halls and seeing the excitement of so many children is very pleasant. Having them in class the next day after they have been up since 4a.m., well….

Now, as I sit in my apartment overlooking World Cup, I hear the horns honking and the ocassional person yelling “Dae Han Min Guk.” I also find my self mumming the words “Dae Han Min Guk.” It is not Korea playing in the World Cup game that I find most astounding, it is the pride of the people.
It seems there is more national unity here than I have ever seen in my life. I respect the fact that Korea takes so much pride in itself. I think more coutnries should follow this remarkable example. All the partying and festivities remind me of the good old Super Bowl days.
Will I get any sleep tonight?? Probably not, but I will have another good experience to write home about.
